Counselling for Depression Practitioner Training

Practitioners are required to attend five days of formal teaching (part 1), complete 80 hours of practice (in the usual NHS Talking Therapies service setting) with dedicated CfD supervision.

Practitioners may then submit four audio recordings of practice that demonstrate adherence to the CfD competencies - this forms part 2 of the training. This second part of the training may be undertaken at the participant's pace, with the bundled in CfD supervision.

Who is this training for?

Practitioners should have:

  • at least an existing diploma in person-centred/humanistic counselling/psychotherapy,
  • two years of post qualification practice experience
  • and experience of offering brief interventions to clients with common mental health problems.
