CAP overview

This Masters programme is intended for graduates in Psychology, who are interested in developing careers as applied psychological practitioners in a range of healthcare settings working with adults, children and young people. The programme will hopefully become available as a degree apprenticeship (see: https://www.instituteforapprenticeships.org/apprenticeship-standards/clinical-associate-in-psychology-cap/). Clinical Associates in Psychology fill an identified skills gap between assistant psychologists and qualified clinical psychologists. They are able to practice autonomously with appropriate support, working within their scope of practice, under the supervision of a registered clinical psychologist. During training, apprentices typically spend one or two days a week in academic study with their remaining time working in an applied practice setting under supervision.
